{"id":526,"date":"2010-05-31T13:26:22","date_gmt":"2010-05-31T18:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/?p=526"},"modified":"2010-05-31T13:31:01","modified_gmt":"2010-05-31T18:31:01","slug":"album-covers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/?p=526","title":{"rendered":"Album Covers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know many of you reading this have never bought an album (vinyl).\u00a0 But a big part of the \u201calbum experience\u201d was the art.\u00a0 Sometimes the word \u201cart\u201d was used very loosely.\u00a0 Sometimes the images burned themselves into your brain like a familiar smell or sound.\u00a0 Sometimes they made your eyes water.\u00a0 For many albums, I only remember their covers, I couldn&#8217;t name a single song on the record but the image stuck.\u00a0 For others, I enjoyed the music so much the positive feelings were transferred to the images associated with that song\/album.\u00a0 I can\u2019t think of a very good analogy to album art in today&#8217;s pop culture.\u00a0 I guess the closest thing would be music videos.<\/p>\n<p>I started to think of the \u201cbest album covers\u201d.\u00a0 It was really hard to divorce the image from the music.\u00a0 Of course if you wander about the best, you have to consider the worst, clearly a band I linked could never have one of those but even so, there are a lot to choose from.\u00a0 I have posted a few that tend to stand out on both ends of the scale.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/peppers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"peppers\" src=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/peppers_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"peppers\" width=\"142\" height=\"142\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/sabbath.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"sabbath\" src=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/sabbath_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"sabbath\" width=\"135\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/nevermind.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"nevermind\" src=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/nevermind_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"nevermind\" width=\"137\" height=\"137\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/millie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"millie\" src=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/millie_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"millie\" width=\"134\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/clash.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"clash\" src=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/clash_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"clash\" width=\"129\" height=\"132\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/ken.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"ken\" src=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/ken_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"ken\" width=\"136\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/candyo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; border: 0px;\" title=\"candyo\" src=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/candyo_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"candyo\" width=\"132\" height=\"132\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes the covers would open up to reveal even more.\u00a0 Other covers had moving parts.\u00a0 The Stones \u201cSticky Fingers\u201d had a working zipper on the cover.\u00a0 Zeppelin&#8217;s \u201cPhysical Graffiti\u201d had windows cut out of the cover and the album sleeves also had art on them, so the cover would look different depending on which sides of which albums (it was a double album) was filling in the windows.\u00a0 Since we used to actually sit down and listen to records from start to finish, we would often pass the time pouring over the covers and liner notes \u2013 that was our multimedia experience.\u00a0 Got any favorites?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> But a big part of the \u201calbum experience\u201d was the art.
