{"id":944,"date":"2011-07-22T08:48:41","date_gmt":"2011-07-22T13:48:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/?p=944"},"modified":"2011-07-22T08:48:41","modified_gmt":"2011-07-22T13:48:41","slug":"html-5-doodle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thechristys.net\/?p=944","title":{"rendered":"HTML 5 Doodle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/html5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-945 alignleft\" title=\"html5\" src=\"http:\/\/thechristys.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/html5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"479\" height=\"245\" \/><\/a>As you know, Google puts &#8220;doodles&#8221; on the front page of their search site to commemorate people and events.\u00a0 I find them almost universally entertaining or interesting.\u00a0 You can see all the past doodle <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goologos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">here <\/a>\u00a0(time sink warning &#8211; if you go there it could be an hour before you return).\u00a0 Some of the logo&#8217;s are interactive.\u00a0 There was a guitar you could play and even a PacMan game.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s doodle isn&#8217;t notable because of what it pays tribute to, or how cool it looks\u00a0or even the kind of interaction it offers.\u00a0 This one is special because it is built with HTML 5.\u00a0 I think this signals the beginning of mainstreaming of HTML 5.<\/p>\n<p>What is HTML 5?\u00a0 Simply put, it&#8217;s a open standard for programing multimedia on the web (sound, graphics, movies).\u00a0 In the past you needed to use proprietary tools like Flash or Quicktime.\u00a0 HTML 5 is an effort to open and standardize and open these tools.\u00a0 Should you care?\u00a0 Probably not, most of us don&#8217;t write code.\u00a0 But I think it&#8217;s notable because it represents to movement away from proprietary to open, and I think that is great.<\/p>\n<p>HTML 5 is new and isn&#8217;t included in the most popular browser yet (Internet Explorer), but it is in Chrome and Firefox.\u00a0 If you go to Google.com with IE you will just see an impage, if you use Chrome you will be able to play with the image.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As you know, Google puts &#8220;doodles&#8221; on the front page of their search site to commemorate people and events.
