I usually avoid the political stories on this blog, but this one has a technology twist which lifted it over the bar.
According to an article in Wired. On New Years eve, a Muslim terrorist was preparing to set off a suicide bomb belt in Russia with the goal to kill as many innocent people as possible. She was to go to Red Square and find a place to blow up among the revelers. Her “handler” sends a text to her cell phone when he thinks they can kill the most people and the bomb explodes automatically. Apparently the bombers themselves aren’t totally reliable when it comes to pushing the button. While she was preparing to go on her mission, sitting in her safe house her wireless carrier wanted to wish all their customers a Happy New Year . . . so they sent everyone a text . . . saying Happy New year.
