This blog is written and managed with a tool called Blogger.com, it is owned by Google. They encourage you to blog using their space, servers, domain and their tool to manage it. I have bucked the trend by using my own (rented) server, space, domain and their tool to manage posts.
Well I got a gmail the other day that said . . . sorry it’s too much trouble to support you guys with your own stuff, come be assimilated . . . or something to that effect.
Now to be fair, Google wasn’t getting any money from me before and they are not asking for any now, so they still don’t fall into the evil camp.
I am working with my hosting provider to try to come up with an alternative. After all Google is trying to cut them out of the loop completely, so that combined with the fact that I am a good paying customer and they have great customer service means they are trying to help me stay put.
We will probably get a new look and feel but I will try an keep all the rich history that is our archive. Don’t be scared, we will get through this together.
You know, if you want to abandon your domain you already have a blogspot.com domain for this blog. If your domain is more important for this blog, then I guess we'll see a new format. I looked at wordpress recently.
You are right Stu, but I don't want to abandon my domain, I like owning my email address. wordpress is what they are going to install for me, what did you think of it?
I didn't look at it too thoroughly. I think it's one of those things that will grow on you because with some effort it can do some cool stuff.
