Fishing in Galveston Bay

Galveston Bay is the second largest bay in the continual US, the largest being the Chesapeake. Houston which sits on part of the bay is the 4th largest city in the US so it stands to reason there are quite a few people interested in fishing in and around Galveston Bay.

Rockport Fishing Vacation

Linda, Katie and I just got back from spending 4 days in the Rockport TX area. We rented a house on a canal that leads to Compano Bay. The house had a boat slip and even it’s own boar ramp so we took our fishing boat with us and boy are we glad we did. […]

I broke my first rod today

Anyone who fishes with any kind of regularity breaks fishing rods. They are so thin and long. Most rods are broken in car doors, tail gates, under foot and in general boat mayhem. Sometimes they are broken with a fish on the other end. I would have preferred to keep mine in one piece (instead […]

Relaxing in Panama City

Last weekend Linda and I flew east to attend Linda’s nephew’s wedding in Alabama (more on that in the next post). We took a couple of extra days and went to Panama City.

Linda found us a really nice place to stay called the Marriott Bay Point Resort. One of our favorite features of […]

Kayak learning curve

Our kayaking adventure continues. As some of you know, I purchased a used kayak a couple of weeks back. I got a Malibu X-Factor. Malibu is a company known for making “big boy” kayaks. They tend to be “robust”. What they lack in speed they make up for with stability and when fat people sit […]

Maybe you should dig out that camera of yours

Here is an over simplified explanation of HDR: Imagine that the full range of color and intensity in the world goes from 0 – 100. Our eyes see most of it but not all of it, maybe values 20-85. A photograph (and print or display on a computer) is less than that, for arguments sake, lets say between 35-60. This is one of the reasons a photo can’t fully express a sunset or light streaming through a stained glass window, we see the values between 20-85 (and feel even more than that) but the photo we take only shows the middle 35-60 colors and intensities. An HDR photo turns up the colors and intensities (light and dark) to 11. It artificially boosts the photo. If done poorly the photo just looks overblown and garish, if done well it can actually come closer to the “real” feeling you had when you saw it in person. Of course, first you have to be a good photographer then you have to become an HDR […]

Never too old for a ride in the wagon

Fred Keller and Judy Foster live in Alaska, Wasilla to be exact, and they built themselves a wagon. It’s just like the ones they had when they were kids except they don’t need to ask anyone to pull them. Fred – 68, built it from a Mazda pick up truck, fiberglass, foam and marine […]

Fall Makes Me a Better Person

. . . which isn’t that hard to do after summer. When we finally get a break from the heat and humidity, when you can open up the house and let the breeze blow through, when going out into the full sun doesn’t melt your hair, that’s when I feel best. I smile more. I […]

Emergency Bra

“Quick! we are under nucular attack – give me your bra!”

“Really dear, it’s not what you think, there was a mustard gas threat, I was just taking the proper precautions.”

“Janie, it’s not you, it’s me. I just need more . . .air that’s why I am riding with Rachel”

These things just […]

Galveston trip on Sunday

Linda and I went down to Galveston on Sunday. It was a beautiful day and we thought we needed to be outside. We packed our cooler, fishing gear and reading material and headed south in the convertible. There was plenty of traffic, apparently we weren’t the only ones who noticed it was a nice day […]
